May Athlete of the Month Ray Bertram

In an effort to get to know the fine folks of CrossFit Austin, we embark on our Athlete of the Month series.  Each month we will spotlight a different CFA athlete.  This month we have pull-up machine Ray Bertram….

Raymond Bertram, but everyone calls me Ray.

Occupation?
Electrical engineer

Words to live by?
Keep a positive attitude and laugh/smile easily.

What is your fitness background? How long have you been CrossFitting?
Many, many years ago I played soccer. Been crossfitting for 6 months.

What’s your favorite part of CrossFit?
Definitely the people – friendly and supportive. The ever changing workouts are also good.

What are your training goals?
They keep changing. It started as “Get through on-ramp without breaking something”. Now I’ve settled on “keep improving my conditioning and keep getting stronger”.

Favorite sport or activity?
I am a golf nut – play at least once a week. I’ll even watch it on TV. I know, kinda sick.

Recent adventure you’re planning?
Taking the family to Jamaica this summer.

Tell us something we don’t know about you?
The accent is from Jamaica.

Longhorns or Aggies?
Neither! I am a Florida Gator.

Your execution of the mustache is, in my opinion, flawless. Do you have any tips for the rest of us trying to achieve your level of manliness?
Yes, keep it short enough so the gray hairs don’t show.

Push yourself. Sounds simple but everytime I dont I feel like I’ve missed an opportunity to improve or learn something. Of course, this applies to most things in life.
